šŸ¦ƒ Thanksgiving Thoughts šŸ„§

Happy Thanksgiving, traders!

Jeff here.

I hope youā€™re all stuffing your faces with delicious food, spending time with loved ones, and enjoying a much-deserved break from the market.

Today, Iā€™d like to take a step back and talk about some of the things Iā€™m thankful for.

And on the top of that list is you.

Iā€™m blessed to have such dedicated, hardworking, and intelligent trading students. Iā€™m honored to be your mentor.

But thatā€™s not all Iā€™m thankful forā€¦

I have one of the greatest gifts in life ā€” the ability to do the thing I love most for a living.

Thatā€™s SO rare, but I donā€™t say this to brag or take it for grantedā€¦

Iā€™m telling you this to motivate you to be the best trader you can be!

With that in mind, here are three reasons why Iā€™m thankful to be a professional traderā€¦

Thankful for My Personal Freedom

First, Iā€™m thankful for the freedom that being a trader provides in my personal life

Right now, Iā€™m taking a Thanksgiving vacation with my family.

If I had a normal job, I wouldā€™ve had to ask permission to take time off.

Back when I was a floor trader on Wall Street, I didnā€™t have this sort of freedom.

I had to follow the rules and check with my bosses before doing anything.

But these days, as a self-sufficient trader, I can choose to work (or vacation) whenever I feel like it.

I donā€™t have a boss to answer to, a schedule to adhere to, or an office to go to.

In other words, I can do whatever I want ā€¦ whenever I want.

Most people canā€™t say thatā€¦ and Iā€™m thankful every day that I can.

Thankful for the Ability to Work from Anywhere

Unlike most gigs, trading gives you the freedom to work from anywhere

My buddy Tim Sykes is infamous for trading on his laptop all over the world ā€” from crystal-clear beaches to gorgeous foreign landscapes.

But he doesnā€™t do this to look cool ā€” he does it to prove a valuable point.

Sykes has shown millions of traders that you can make money from nearly anywhere in the world.

All you need is a solid internet connection and a laptop.

Now, most of the time, Iā€™m trading from my home office.

Unlike Sykes, I have a wife and three kids, so I canā€™t be globe-trotting to a different country every day of the week.

But that doesnā€™t mean I canā€™t make some killer trades while Iā€™m on family vacationā€¦

How many jobs can you say that for? I canā€™t think of many.

Thankful to Run My Business My Way

In addition to providing freedom in your personal life, trading gives you leeway when it comes to deciding the costs you want to take on in your business.

Trading is a rare kind of business where you can be the CEO without worrying about brick-and-mortar real estate costs, payroll, and marketing.

Youā€™re the only employee ā€” and youā€™re your own boss. To me, thatā€™s priceless.

Again, I canā€™t help but think back to my days on Wall Street

I had no control over my business, I was simply an employee trying to make the fund money.

But as a self-sufficient trader, I have considerably more pride in my work. Every decision I make is mine. I own my wins and losses.

This may sound scary, but itā€™s actually one of the greatest gifts you can have in the world.

Start treating your trading like a small businessā€¦

Be the CEO. Study hard, stay disciplined, make informed decisions ā€¦ and watch the value of your business soar.

Enjoy Your Time Off

Even if youā€™re completely obsessed with the stock market (like me), youā€™ve gotta find balance in your life.

Thanksgiving is a good time to remind yourself of thisā€¦

NEVER let trading take over your entire life.

Take me, for exampleā€¦

Youā€™ve all seen how much time I spend on trading and analyzing the markets.

But in the big picture, my time with my family is much more important to me.

Thatā€™s why I always make sure to take breaks from trading to spend time with them.

It helps me remember whatā€™s truly important. And even better, it helps my trading.

But I get it. Less-experienced traders may have trouble disconnecting. It was hard for me to rip myself away from the charts when I was first starting as a trader.

If you find yourself in this category, take a deep breath. Use this time off to brush up on your fundamentals without the hustle and bustle of active trading.

The market will still be there tomorrow, I promise.

Have a great Thanksgiving,

Jeff Zananiri
