Happy Thanksgiving, traders!
Jeff here.
I hope youโre all stuffing your faces with delicious food, spending time with loved ones, and enjoying a much-deserved break from the market.
Today, Iโd like to take a step back and talk about some of the things Iโm thankful for.
And on the top of that list is you.
Iโm blessed to have such dedicated, hardworking, and intelligent trading students. Iโm honored to be your mentor.
But thatโs not all Iโm thankful forโฆ
I have one of the greatest gifts in life โ the ability to do the thing I love most for a living.
Thatโs SO rare, but I donโt say this to brag or take it for grantedโฆ
Iโm telling you this to motivate you to be the best trader you can be!
With that in mind, here are three reasons why Iโm thankful to be a professional traderโฆ
Thankful for My Personal Freedom
First, Iโm thankful for the freedom that being a trader provides in my personal life.
Right now, Iโm taking a Thanksgiving vacation with my family.
If I had a normal job, I wouldโve had to ask permission to take time off.
Back when I was a floor trader on Wall Street, I didnโt have this sort of freedom.
I had to follow the rules and check with my bosses before doing anything.
But these days, as a self-sufficient trader, I can choose to work (or vacation) whenever I feel like it.
I donโt have a boss to answer to, a schedule to adhere to, or an office to go to.
In other words, I can do whatever I want โฆ whenever I want.
Most people canโt say thatโฆ and Iโm thankful every day that I can.
Thankful for the Ability to Work from Anywhere
Unlike most gigs, trading gives you the freedom to work from anywhere.
My buddy Tim Sykes is infamous for trading on his laptop all over the world โ from crystal-clear beaches to gorgeous foreign landscapes.

But he doesnโt do this to look cool โ he does it to prove a valuable point.
Sykes has shown millions of traders that you can make money from nearly anywhere in the world.
All you need is a solid internet connection and a laptop.
Now, most of the time, Iโm trading from my home office.
Unlike Sykes, I have a wife and three kids, so I canโt be globe-trotting to a different country every day of the week.
But that doesnโt mean I canโt make some killer trades while Iโm on family vacationโฆ
How many jobs can you say that for? I canโt think of many.
Thankful to Run My Business My Way
In addition to providing freedom in your personal life, trading gives you leeway when it comes to deciding the costs you want to take on in your business.
Trading is a rare kind of business where you can be the CEO without worrying about brick-and-mortar real estate costs, payroll, and marketing.
Youโre the only employee โ and youโre your own boss. To me, thatโs priceless.
Again, I canโt help but think back to my days on Wall Street.
I had no control over my business, I was simply an employee trying to make the fund money.
But as a self-sufficient trader, I have considerably more pride in my work. Every decision I make is mine. I own my wins and losses.
This may sound scary, but itโs actually one of the greatest gifts you can have in the world.
Start treating your trading like a small businessโฆ
Be the CEO. Study hard, stay disciplined, make informed decisions โฆ and watch the value of your business soar.
Enjoy Your Time Off
Even if youโre completely obsessed with the stock market (like me), youโve gotta find balance in your life.
Thanksgiving is a good time to remind yourself of thisโฆ
NEVER let trading take over your entire life.
Take me, for exampleโฆ
Youโve all seen how much time I spend on trading and analyzing the markets.
But in the big picture, my time with my family is much more important to me.
Thatโs why I always make sure to take breaks from trading to spend time with them.
It helps me remember whatโs truly important. And even better, it helps my trading.
But I get it. Less-experienced traders may have trouble disconnecting. It was hard for me to rip myself away from the charts when I was first starting as a trader.
If you find yourself in this category, take a deep breath. Use this time off to brush up on your fundamentals without the hustle and bustle of active trading.
The market will still be there tomorrow, I promise.
Have a great Thanksgiving,
Jeff Zananiri
